Collecting and Dissecting
Collecting and Dissecting
Today is the day we collected and dissected the test subjects!! In the beginning of class, we discussed what we were going to do because it is finally time to start! Marshall gave us a background about soapberry bugs. Then we split into four groups: collecting, literature, dissect, brainstorming quantitative observations.
Schedule for this class:
Collecting:
One group went to the ecosystem, and the other group went to Segundo, Wellman, and the Barn to collect as many bugs as possible. At the ecosystem, there were only Box Elder bugs and at the other locations had Soapberry Bugs.
Dissecting group:
Everyone worked hard and did a great job on dissecting! It was challenging since the bugs were floating in liquid and were very small to work with. Some parts of the soapberry bug were easy to separate and identify but some parts were tough.
Literature group:
The literature group managed to find many useful and interesting sources. They found information on the type of antibiotic that we can use and went more in depth in previous research done on soapberry bugs.
Homework:
- R4 homework
- Keep up with the readings!
- A link with helpful information on Soapberry bugs.
- Be prepared to come to class with questions, methods and ideas to discuss and finalize our research! Try to come up with ideas based on what we have available to us and the type of data we can collect.
Note: Schedule for next class is very open ended because it all depends on what we come up with, and what we start doing based on our decision as a collective!
