Avenge The Fallen

Greetings, Avengers! Great job on our mission today! Despite loosing a few of our comrades, that will not stop us. Why? Because we have sugar (creativity), spice (determination), everything nice (teamwork), and chemical X! (for legal reasons, that is a joke)

Here's what we did today:

Time Activity  Duration
10:00am  Shared individual ideas on methods 52 minutes
10:52am  Lecture from Spider-man (Adrian) 15 minutes
11:08am  Creating an idea/method with a group32 minutes
11:40am  Share group idea with class  10 minutes
11:50am  End of class announcements with Iron Man (Marshall) and Athena  5 minutes

An un-bee-liveable presentation

Training in progress

Highlights from today:

We discussed possible methods we can try out for our experiments. Some of them include UV patterns on flowers, learning ability of Pipevine swallowtails, and color + scent association. We also talked about the logistical parts of the experiment such as how to care of the butterflies (temperature, humidity, food, keeping them in the green house) and how to collect nectar from flowers.

Spider-man (Adrian) swung by to give a presentation on animal behavior. After using Tony Stark's advanced technology, the presentation was on display and informed us of the wonders of wildlife. Moooove over animal planet! We learn about how our comrades interact with the environment in order to promote its fitness. These include, obtaining food, communicating, socialization, mating, self-defense, and avoiding predation. We also learn about Tinbergen's four question regarding behavior.

Preparation for next class:

1) Look at methods to effectively collect butterflies.
2) Send over a Google doc that goes over your method that your group present in class.
3) Thoroughly read each Google doc and come up with a list of pros and cons for each.
4) Come up with a list of materials we need to do any observations on the butterflies/prep for experiment (also make sure it stays within our budget.
5) Take note of what you done outside of this class and post it on the weekly reflection.

Tentative schedule for next class:
